This week, Life Training Online is reviewing Law of Attraction: The Science of Attracting More of What You Want and Less of What You Don’t, by Michael Losier, the seventeenth of fifty-two books in the 52 Personal Development Books in 52 Weeks series.
The History of the Law of Attraction
The book begins with a brief history of the law of attraction which I found to be very interesting. For example, as far as written documentation goes, it was first coined “the law of attraction” in the early 1900s. From that time, writings about it have popped up here and there but it wasn’t until the early 1990s, with the publications of Jerry and Esther Hicks in their much acclaimed Teachings of Abraham series, that detailed information around it has been made widely available. In fact, most of the ideas in this book have been inspired by their teachings.
You’re Already Experiencing the Law of Attraction
For those new to the law of attraction, one of the main points Losier wants to make is that even if you don’t realize it, you are already experiencing this law in your daily life. For example, everything from situations you might chalk up as coincidence, serendipity and fate to karma, synchronicity, and even a run of bad luck is the law of attraction at work in your life. Losier defines the law of attraction as: I attract to my life whatever I give my attention, energy and focus to, whether positive or negative.
Positive and Negative Vibrations
Every moment of the day, we experience a particular mood. And at this exact moment in time, that mood or feeling you are having — either good or bad — is emitting a positive or negative vibration. In turn, the law of attraction responds to whatever vibration that you are offering and matches your vibration by giving you more of the same — whether that vibration is positive or negative.
Observing Sends a Vibration
Even observations send a vibration. When you observe, for example, what you lack in life, and you respond to that observation with negative feelings, the law of attraction will continue to manifest those negative observations — thus perpetuating it more. If, however, you take an active role (what Losier refers to as Deliberate Attraction) in what you wish to attract by using his 3-step formula (I’ll cover this in the next post), you can actively participate in the attraction process.
Understanding the Significance of Your Words
Most of the vibrations that you send out have their roots in the words you tell yourself. Our thoughts are made up of words and our feelings are in turn made up of our thoughts. When you can learn to erase the words from your internal speech that cause you to attract what you DON’T want and replace them with words that reflect what you DO want, your vibration changes and the law of attraction responds to that change. And because you can only send out one vibration at a time, the law of attraction will give you more of what is being sent out.
